Cameroonian diaspora: 5 mistakes to avoid when financing a solar project
Financing a solar installation from abroad is risky if you don't surround yourself with the right people. Here are the 5 most common mistakes we see at DSS.
1. Sending money before the detailed quote
Always insist on an itemised quote, equipment by equipment, before any transfer. The quote should list: - Reference and brand of each panel - Inverter and battery references - Labour breakdown - Warranties per piece of equipment
2. Underestimating customs fees
Panels imported into Cameroon can be taxed at 5 to 15 % depending on their origin. DSS handles these formalities locally and includes all fees in the final quote.
3. Choosing the installer on price alone
The cheapest is rarely the most reliable over time. Check: - Certifications (local equivalent of RGE) - How long the company has been in business - Verified reviews from previous clients
4. Not signing a commissioning report
Without a jointly signed commissioning report (Procès-Verbal), no real warranty applies. The report must list the tests carried out and confirm compliance.
5. Forgetting about maintenance
An unmaintained kit loses 30 % of its output in 5 years. DSS includes a 2-year maintenance contract with every installation.
